On Tuesday September 8 we caravanned with Al & Barb in off and on rain 141.4 miles to John Gurney Park in Hart Michigan to join the Escapees Great Lakes Chapter 6 fall rally. 5 days at the rally visiting with friends old and new. During the rally we visited the Country Dairy in New Era and the Shelby Gem Factory in Shelby. We stayed over Sunday after the rally and Maralyn and Jim Kimmins joined us for a tour up the west Michigan shoreline to Silver Lake, Pentwater, and Ludington.
On Monday September 14 we drove 150.9 miles to Riverfront Park Campground in Niles Michigan. The first part of the trip we caravanned with Jim & Maralyn Kimmins who were headed the same direction. The 4 of us stopped for lunch at a rest area on US-31 then went our separate ways. They went on to visit family and we went on to join the Escapees Hoosier Neighbor Chapter 51 rally.
During the rally we visited with friends from Indiana and met some new folks. We also toured South Bend Chocolate Factory and Museum, had lunch at the Chocolate Factory Café in Downtown South Bend. After lunch the group went on to the Studebaker Museum but we did not join them, we have been to that museum before and Carole did not feel like walking that much.
On Monday September 21 we drove 83.2 miles back up to our Coast to Coast home park in Alamo (Kalamazoo) Michigan. Tuesday morning Carole was feeling very bad and we looked on line for a close by walk-in clinic. We went to Monarch Clinic in Otsego MI where they diagnosed her with Pneumonia and severely low blood oxygen levels and they sent us on to the Emergency Room in Allegan General Hospital and they kept her in the hospital for 4 nights.
On Thursday October 1 Spring Lake campground was closing for the season so we moved 67.5 miles down to Elkhart County Fairgrounds in Goshen Indiana to join the Thor Diesel Club rally which was scheduled to start on Sunday. We stayed at the fairgrounds for the rally until Saturday October 10 when we moved 38.8 miles to Duncan RV Repair campground in Elkhart Indiana.
Monday morning October 12 we made a quick 38.3 mile round trip to Lambright Custom Chairs near Shipshewana to pick up our 2 new Recliners.
Back at Duncan RV Repair they replaced our defective roof air conditioner/heat pump that they had installed in early August, and they replaced our slide topper awning that had self-destructed in August as well as a couple of other minor repairs.
With our repairs all finished on Thursday afternoon we headed out Friday morning and drove 224.8 miles to Prairie Pines Campground in Rantoul Illinois. We stayed over Saturday to visit the Air Force Museum at the former Chanute Air Force Base.
Sunday morning we packed up and drove 207.7 miles to our son Mike’s place near Bunker Hill Illinois where we stayed for 8 days.
Monday October 26 we said goodbye to Mike & Chrissy and baby Aaliyah and drove 233.8 miles across Interstate 70 to The Great Escape RV Resort in Higginsville MO just east of Kansas City. We chose this route because of the terrible storms deluging Texas. We had hoped to avoid the rain by going this way but it came more north that moving east and it caught up to us. We got up Tuesday morning to pouring rain so I walked over to the office and paid for another day.
Wednesday Morning, October 28, we packed up and headed toward Kansas City and turned southwest on I-35. We stopped for the night at Air Capitol RV Park in Wichita Kansas after traveling 247.4 miles for the day.
Thursday we continued south on I-35 and turned west on I-40 and stopped for the night at Mustang Run RV Park after traveling only 168.0 miles. It started raining during the night and it was pouring when we got up Friday morning. The weather report said the rain would last all day so I got my raincoat and an umbrella and slogged over to the office to register for another night.
Saturday morning we packed up and headed west 255.6 miles to Amarillo Texas and stopped at Fort Amarillo RV (Resort NOT!!) Park. Normally we do not travel on Sunday but we decided we really did not want to stay at this park for another night. We headed more west 163.0 miles on I-40 and stopped at Santa Rosa RV Park in Santa Rosa New Mexico. We did a small load of laundry and then had dinner in the campground café.
Monday November 2 we left Santa Rosa and continued west on I-40 and turned south on I-25 and stopped for the night at RJ-RV Park in Truth or Consequences New Mexico having traveled 273.2 miles for the day.
Tuesday morning we continued south on I-25 and turned west on I-10 at Las Cruces and stopped at Escapees Dream Catcher RV Park in Deming New Mexico having traveled only 137.4 miles. We stayed 3 nights at Dream Catcher, had dinner at Si Senor Mexican Restaurant with Greg & Kathy Reed one evening, got all our laundry caught up, and got our grocery shopping done at Peppers Market and WalMart.
Friday morning November 6 we left Deming and continued west on I-10 178.6 miles, stopping at Flying J in Lordsburg for fuel, and on into Arizona to Escapees Saguaro SKP Co-Op RV Park in Benson. We stayed the weekend and had dinner Friday night with Bruce & Bunny Ratcliff and Jack & Rita Stout. Saturday we visited with Andy & Maxine Vert and then with Byron & Carroll Little. Sunday we visited with Cosmo & Ellen Baraona after listening to the Jam Session in the Club House.
Monday morning November 9 we headed out and continued west on I-10 passing through Tucson and Casa Grande, we turned north on AZ-303 on the west side of Phoenix and up to US-60 at Surprise. West on 60 to Wickenburg where we turned north on US-93, then north on AZ-89 to Escapees North Ranch RV Park near Congress Arizona. We will be here until we go to the Quartzsite RV gathering in January.
Not the most direct route.
