Devine Inrervention

Yesterday driving from Baton Rouge LA to Livingston TX we got off I-10 at exit 121 to go to the Atchafalaya Rest Area and Visitor Center.  We followed a Fifth-Wheel onto what we thought was the entrance to the Rest Area, but it turned out to be a road to a boat ramp with a 12'6" clearance bridge.  Below is a picture captured from our dashcam of the 5th wheel getting turned around.

We would have to unhitch the car and either try the same turn around or back out about a quarter of a mile.  And here is where the Devine Intervention comes in,  When I got back to the hitch the driver side locking pin on the hitch had lost the cap and was working it's way out.  Had we traveled much further the pin would have come out and the car would have been out of control.  I do keep an extra set of hitch pins and we avoided probable disaster.

As it turned out Carole turned the car around and drove it over to the proper Rest Area Parking Lot and I decided to back the coach out the quarter mile to the road to turn and proceed to the Rest Area.

We rehitched the car and Thanked the Lord for the mistake turned blessing.

Beaver Lake Campground

Traveled 254 miles today from Sumter Oaks RV Park near Bushnell, FL to Beaver Lake CG near Quincy, FL.  Passport America discount park, 50amp full hookup site parked on grass.  This is a barebones RV park and is OK for overnight.  Right off I-10 at exit 174 behind a Marathon Gas Station.

We are back We are back at Sumter Oaks RV Park for overnight then on toward Rainbow Plantation tomorrow. It will take us two days to get there.

New Toy

I bought a new toy from TechnoRV Yesterday, A dashcam.

This is a captured still from the video I took driving around a small circle here in the campground.  The picture was captured and then reduced in size using Picasa to upload to the blog.  I am very pleased with the quality of the video and the resulting captured picture.  I will be able to upload videos to the blog once in a while when I have free wi-fi.  And I will be able to capture those nice views driving down the road that I can't take with a camera.

Thor Diesel Club Gathering at the Florida RV Supershow in Tampa at the Florida State Fairgrounds.  We have 17 rigs here at the gathering and also a few members are working at vendor booths at the show and not parked with us,  We are here Wednesday afternoon to Sunday morning during the show.
